Meat the Enigma (M. Wilson)
Binary drawing.
1/1 NFT. 2024.
Mark Wilson is a multilayered, sweet & sour, deep fried, strobe light of contemporary commentary and artistic output. His X name “die with the most likes” and *pinned tweet offer insight into his position on modern day media, technology fueled consumption, and consumerism. Satire, dark humor, and existential dread all dance with each other in the work created by Mark. Absurd scenarios with a grotesque aesthetic that have the audience in a place where laughter gives way to somber contemplation, which eventually circles back to a light giggle before dying inside and continuing to scroll. That’s some good meat.
This portrait is based on a candid self portrait of Mark from his X account. I focused on Mark’s figure, posture, expression, and plentiful glass of red liquid. As meat is a major topic of Mark’s art, I continued the theme with FDA’s org chart and budget. After all they are the major agency that approves the “good” meat for the free citizens of the USA.
So here’s to another portrait of an intriguing artist and mind in the NFT / Web3 community. I’m glad to be alive at this moment in time to take in his work and capture his likeness in my art.
* “my goal isn’t the louvre or the fuckin tate or any museum. it’s to be printed on gas station sex pills. or on a billboard next to a personal injury attorney. or to be sold next to fuckable plush snuggies on QVC. my goal is to be the asphalt we walk on.”
